I am done quilting the guild raffle quilt!!

I finished the quilting on the guild raffle quilt last night and now I just have to add the sleeve and binding!! What a relief to have this accomplished. It took three long days (five, if I count the planning) but was fun once I ot into it. Enjoy! Susan

Merry Christmas!

I am taking a few days off from quilting to get the house cleaned and the last of the cookies baked. I hope you all have a very happy holiday and a prosperous and peaceful New Year! Thank you for being interested in my quilting passion! Susan

A happier day!

I just got a phone call from my daughter, Amy, in Baghdad and she has been given a big new job for the Army. She is now the editor in chief of the Advisor magazine, an armed forces publication. She is so excited and I am so proud of her. (Plus, it should be a bit safer job...after all, I am her mother).
Meanwhile, I have been baking like crazy and getting all the gifts wrapped, packed and on their way to kids and grandkids all over this country. Only one last minute Christmas order to quilt, and then I am on the regular schedule again. It should be a merry Christmas after all!
Here is a couple of photos of my Army girl. Pray for all the troops' safety while they are so far away.
Thanks, Susan

Different sort of job...

My customer had a comforter set and sheets she liked, and wanted the sheets to be integrated with the comforter and shams. Here is the resulting set, all quilted and on her bed! I had enough fabric to make the throw pillow, too.

Christmas rush

I have been very busy quilting christmas projects for my customers, and now I need to do some of my own projects or have nothing to give! My daughter is on her way to Iraq for the second tour, and my thoughts are drifting to her constantly as she will miss Christmas with her kids again. Out of the four kids, only one will make it to Florida this year, but we will have great fun and be sure to call the others and wish them a happy holiday. As for quilts...here are a couple of customer favorites from the last week or so. Until next time! Susan

Home after surgery

I was only in hospital overnight and I am now home on the road to recovery! Before going in, I quickly quilted my charity quilts and put on the bindings so I would have something to do while recovering. Here they are! Now, I have to go sit down and take it easy...I am not used to that!

Busy week and pending surgery

I had a bad experience after the retreat, a gall bladder attack. I thought I was dieing! Two weeks later and feeling crappy the whole time, I am having surgery to get rid of the affected organ. Meanwhile, I have worked my tail off to get caught up and ready for the inevitable recovery time. Here are a couple of the quilts I did last week.
Also, the West Palm World quilt show was fun, and I saw many spectacular quilts. A man won the best of show. Quilting...not just for grandmas anymore!!

On Point class

I had great fun teaching the on point quilt class this week. The girls seemed to enjoy it as much as I did! Now, it's off to Sebring and the Murder Mystery retreat.

2009 Mystery quilt

My guild, Peace River Quilters, has an annual mystery quilt challenge, and this year's was a doozy! I had some trouble with the 'scant quarter inch' directions, and my bits didn't match up right. Oh well, I appliqued big birds and flowers over the worst ones and called it a day! Not too bad, but not too good, either.

Customer quilting

I have been very busy trying to get caught up on my customer quilts. I thought you might like these, as they were by far the nicest quilts I have had in a while. Enjoy!

On Point Class projects

I am teaching a class on how to set a quilt on point and had to make my class samples. I thought you might like to see what Easy-On-Point looks like. You can't get much simpler than this! It should be a fun class for everyone, even the absolute beginner.

Back at work again!

I really have had the old nose to the grindstone this week, trying to keep current with the customer quilting. It is like laundry...just when you have it all done, there are socks in the hamper! So it is with customer quilts...they keep on coming. I am so grateful for the work in this slow economy, if any of the quilts are yours--Thank you! Here are a couple of quick pics of this week's work. Later, Susan
