Saturday in the studio

We worked in the studio today; Mr Wazoo on a baby quilt, and I resumed quilting the big custom quilt from yesterday. He finished up and admired his work before starting a major clean up in the studio.

Cute quilt for a new grand baby

Panto: Popcorn

I like this little yellow stripe on the back...wish I had some.

While the man did some heavy lifting and deep cleaning, I kept on quilting until late in the afternoon. The quilt is finished, and gone home with the happy quilt maker. This quilt is so classically beautiful, I would love to have it on my bed. Too bad, so sad.

I can't help but show you a couple of my favorite fabrics in the quilt!
Little purple bees...

and grasshoppers playing pool!
I thought they were musical, but they are common pool sharks!

Some quilting detail.

Some more detail.

A peek at the back.

I had washed the red and white log cabin quilt in the morning and hung it over the railing on the deck to dry. I just took it in, and it smells like outdoors. Nice.

A bit crinkly and soft looking.

Tomorrow, I'm having BIG fun. I promise!

Quilt repair almost finished!

I have been working on the vintage quilt repair for about a week of evenings, and finished the front last night! There are some holes in the muslin back left to do, but they are too boring to show you. I will replace the binding  with wide binding like what's there already, to keep it looking like the original. This was a lot of handwork!! Every time I fixed a torn patch, I found another place that needed repair. Oh well, it is looking good now!

Looking good!

I don't know the name of this block, but it is complicated.

Mr Wazoo was gone all day yesterday, too, working on the longarm assembly for a friend. I loaded this beauty and did the stitch in the ditch and quilted all the pieced blocks! I need to do the plain blocks and border.

It's fun to look at all the fabric choices while quilting. Some of them are
beautiful, and some humorous! Grasshoppers playing pianos!

I got the binding done on this quilt I quilted a couple of days ago, too. My sister pieced the top. It will be a charity quilt.

The binding is a seashell fabric, just the right colors!
After work, I started yet another quilt I have always wanted to make. Probably not the best idea; having two quilt assemblies going at once, but I just wanted to do it!
Block number one

No goofing around today! I will be quilting until 5:30 or 6:00 and then cutting pieces for the back repair of the quilt I finished last night. Maybe I'll goof off tomorrow...

Same day...New post!

The work day is finished and I felt like showing you the quilts from today instead of waiting until tomorrow. There is still hand sewing to do, but I'll get to that in a minute.
Mr Wazoo helped in the studio today, quilting  a cozy looking quilt. I like the simple pattern and think it will be a charity quilt of mine in the future! This one is a Christmas present for the customer's son. At least I think that's what she said...we have several Christmas projects waiting in the queue.

I'm going to make this, for sure!

I love the pattern

Soft homespun on the back.
Panto: Dazzle

I worked these two bright quilts for the same customer, doing a feather meander with a flower motif in the dimensional squares.

They are the same size, I just folded one to show the pieced back.

See?

After lunch, a customer came with a dilemma. Her sister is having a very rough time, so she made a cheerful quilt to send to her. The sister lives in Nova Scotia, and shipping things there takes a while, so she wanted to have it done quickly, if we could. I'm a sucker for a sad story (or a new baby) and got right to work on the quilt. The sister is a tea lover, so the quilt will be perfect for her. Unfortunately, the quilter is a novice and there were a few issues with the quilt. I sewed up some open seams, made the back and got it quilted. Then I made the binding and attached it so I can do the hand sewing tonight. The quilt will be ready to go tomorrow with only a slight hiccup in the quilting schedule. Everybody needs to do a good deed once in a while, don't you think?!

So cheerful and pretty!

Panto: Big Splat

The binding is the same fabric as the backing

My favorite is the bee hive tea pot with the cute bumble bee.

On the way upstairs, I stopped to watch bumble bees in our front  yard enjoying the Russian sage plants! It was another beautiful day here on the mountain.

A big finish on a lovely Autumn day

It has been absolutely beautiful here in the mountains lately, with the daily highs in the high 70s and the lows a great sleeping 50s. Mr Wazoo quickly finished the quilt on his frame and went outside to do some mulching in preparation for the coming winter.

All finished and gone out the door!

Panto: Alfresco

The new shrubs are in and the mulch applied.

Meanwhile, I spent most of the day working on the Be Colorful quilt, making thousands of pebbles and adding a different background in each of the flying geese circles. I finished the quilt in the afternoon, and had some time to make the bias stems for my own project in progress. I think it will take months to complete this quilt, but will be worth it in the end.

Wow. I wish this was my quilt.

Any quilting on black is hard to see in photographs. I hope you can see some of the work I did.

The back is a teal batik

A few burnt fingertips later...bias stems!
I used my 1/4 inch bias bar for the pressing.

I can't believe how long it took just to get one block laid out!
Sewing it will be a challenge, but fun!

Just work...

A couple of customer quilt pick-ups and a lot of quilting filled the day for me. Mr Wazoo had a doctor's appointment in the morning and spent the rest of the day planting shrubs and mulching. He is still outside at 6:15 watering things. I'm hoping he comes in soon, because I am really beat and don't want to be making supper at 8 pm!
We were supposed to be in Hiawassee today, helping a customer put her new longarm machine and table together, but had to re-schedule because of Mr W's appointment. Another day...
This is the beautiful Jacqueline de Jonge ' Be Colorful' quilt my customer made, and I am having a blast quilting it. The stitch in the ditch was boring, but I finished it before lunch.

Ditching done! Ready for quilting.
I spent the rest of the day quilting with various variegated threads, and finally, black for the background. I will probably finish the background quilting tomorrow. Until then, here are a few shots of my progress so far. See you tomorrow!
