Quilt show season is on!!

I worked hard on Sunday and Monday so I could play hooky yesterday and go to the Pigeon Forge show. First, I quilted this big beauty for my friend, Gail, who makes the nicest quilts. She has a wonderful stash and talent to match.

The thousands of pieces are all Tilda fabrics. Yummy!

I finished the turkey tracks repair and binding, as well as re-tying a huge double knit polyester quilt. Boy was my thumb sore from pulling the floss through the layers of polyester! I used my needle puller but it broke after twenty or so knots. I didn't take a picture. I guess I'll take pictures of all three repairs when I finish them. The last one is a double wedding ring.

Next, I made and applied the binding to the cat and dog quilt. All done and looking cute as a button!

I spent today straightening up the studio and starting a customer tee shirt quilt. I found a photo on Pinterest I liked, and I will do mine the same way. It'll make a 60x72" quilt using only 15 shirts. Usually, I have way more shirts to work with. I haven't decided on the colors for the chevrons yet, but I hope to get them made and the top finished tomorrow.

I made a little slideshow of my favorite quilts from the show. I couldn't get my usual slideshow maker to work, so this is what I came up with. No music and a bit brisk on the changes. Back from retreat and other topics

Wow, retreat was fun! Everyone had a good time and got a lot of sewing in. I made three tops and got a jump on another. My roommate finished making the blocks for her king sized quilt. Other campers fused their beautiful wall hangings and sewed mounds of half square triangles for quilts. Eating, laughing and sewing...what could be nicer?

All good things must come to an end, and I returned to my repair projects and to quilt the tops I made at retreat.

It took more time than I anticipated to complete this top. I sewed 14 of the blocks with the directional fabric upside down. Needless to say, I did a good amount of un-sewing before rectifying the error.

The blocks are all from dog and cat fabrics, mostly from the scrap bin.

I fussy cut all the blocks to feature the animals without cutting off much of their body parts!

I started the repair of a matelasse from a customer that was chewed by a visiting dog. It is the blanket her dog loves and she wants it fixed for him. Okay...I'll take that on!

How the damage looks. I traced various sizes of circles around the holes.

Then, I cut the damaged parts out.

One side had extensive damage and the customer wanted it cut off, so I am using that part to scavenge the repair circles to replace the damaged ones.

Some are worse than others!

I match the pattern on the cut out damaged circles and use the matched circles to fit in the holes. Sewn with an overlock type stitch, I secure the new bit into the blanket. This is the front.

 

This is from the back. I bought fabric for binding the edge where I removed the damaged strip from and will apply it when I finish repairing the holes. Meanwhile, last night I did the repairs on a pieced quilt and removed it's damaged binding. I will also make and apply binding there, too. No funday-Sunday this week. I have work to do.

I'll leave you with how the Wazoo homestead looked when I got back from NC. So good to be home.
