A truly productive day

Hurricane Dorian is bearing down on Florida, and I am ever so glad I am not there!! I hope and pray my friends there don't suffer a great loss like Punta Gorda did after hurricane Charley.
On the home front here in Georgia, we busied ourselves with quilting and accomplished quite a lot. Mr Wazoo surprised me by quilting a very difficult hand pieced top. It was a real mess when we got it, but the grandson of the maker wanted it finished for his family. The same woman made the Sunbonnet Sue quilt I finished yesterday.

Zowie! This is a bright quilt!

The fitting panto for this quilt is sunflowers, don't you agree? The name of the panto is Soleil, french for sun.

I used one of the vintage looking backings I bought in Ringgold for the quilt.

I made the binding and applied it. The quilt sure improved with squaring up and binding!

I started with a quilt of valor from Tennessee. The Millie chugged along while I loaded the big chicken and started the stitch in the ditch. I finished the Moon quilting yesterday, and sewed the binding and sleeve last night and this morning before work.

This is one of the prettiest QOVs I have done.

The pantograph I used is called Lazy Log Star

I like the backing, too! The quilt is off to Tennessee and it's maker.
All finished!
Some of the quilting detail
This is the block that represents our guild.
This is supposed to be the morning mist we see most mornings here in the mountains. I named my quilt Moon Over Misty Mountain.

I'm hoping this sleeve placement will let the top stay up and not flop over.
The backing reminds me of a night sky.
I loaded up the big chicken and started stitching in the ditch between rows on the next quilt
Molly had her follow up visit to the vet and graduated to a pink shirt from her  flotation device.
After the QOV was off and trimmed, I quilted this fun baby quilt.
The bright red-orange inner border really pops this simple panel quilt
I did a panto called simple fish
The backing is a lime green flannel polka dot. I just love the whole package.
One of our repeat customers is in NC and she brought two tee shirt quilt to be done . I like the layout of this one, and will probably borrow the idea for my future quilts.
Double square panto
The perfect choice for the back.
By the end of a very long and tiring day, I had five quilts finished, one mailed and the stitch in the ditch done on the big chicken. The day went full circle, starting and ending with the big chicken!
More tomorrow!!

Last flimsy finished!!

I finished the chicken run flimsy yesterday after a marathon doctor appointment in the morning. I figured it was going to be a ten minute follow up appointment, but was informed it was time for my "Medicare check up". Oh my!! I had a walking test (easy), eye test (still easy), physical (still fat), and then the dreaded mental acuity test. ha ha ha! Everyone who knows me knows I have an aversion to numbers and math of any kind. The first test was a math test. You have $100, you buy two items, one for $3 and one for $20. How much did you spend? Well, duh, $23. How much change did you get? I actually said, "I have no idea, but I trust it was the correct amount." The girl smiled and said she needed a numerical answer. I was thinking about it and doing math in my head when she says, "do you need paper and pencil?" OMG! Well, I finally passed the test and was flabbergasted that I could actually repeat lists of numbers backwards. (I know!! What is that about?) The memory stuff was a breeze, and even though I will not say 45's name out loud, she accepted my answer of 45, that jackass, as an answer. Blood draw today, and now, I am back at work.

Chicken Run is ready for quilting

It took over two hours just to stitch around the twenty sets of feet!!
OW! They have my blood and my advance directives. I'm ready for anything.
I quilted a QOV while doing the chickens, and have another one to do today while I quilt the Moon Over Misty Mountain project. Mr Wazoo also quilted, and I am so proud of him for doing this very wonky, vintage quilt without any loud outbursts of frustration. I have to add the binding and give it a wash before it goes home.

This is a pretty and scrappy QOV!

I used the digital panto: Double diamond

Little flags on the back

Mr W did Sunbonnet Sue (with weird arms!)

Panto: Paper Chase

I picked this little calico for the backing. Red polka dots will be the binding.

The moon quilt is loaded and ready for quilting. I'm using  a double layer of Hobbs black 80/20, hoping it will add the stiffness needed to keep it round when hanging. We'll see.
These are only a few of the threads I used for the triangle quilt and chicken run. Putting everything away is the next task.
I better get in the studio and start working!! The day is slipping by.

Another wonderful guild day

Today began with the anticipated Button Society talk from Crocia Roberson and her sister Sallie Swor from the Tennessee Button Society. Crocia told us about the history and evolution of buttons over the centuries while Sallie handled the presentation of the button cards, or trays, as they are properly called.
I never knew buttons were so significant in the history of clothing and decoration! I just knew I loved buttons. We'll have to see where the nearest button club is to Blairsville. When I got home, I dumped out my biggest tin and sorted out anything that was out of the ordinary.

Crocia, seated, and Sallie.

The members could examine the buttons closely after Crocia's talk.

The sisters answered question from curious members.

Crocia is so charming, I'm glad she came.
Once at home, I took the photos of the quilt I finished for a customer yesterday. Mr Wazoo quilted a tee shirt quilt today, and we photographed that, as well.

A tee shirt quilt made by a customer for her firefighter son.

We chose the panto Hot Rod, because it looks like flames.

Bright buffalo checks on the back

This quilt is only the second one my customer has made. She did a pretty good job, although some corners and points are cut off. It was flat and square and a joy to quilt.

Digital panto: Climbing Rose

Pretty swirly backing print.
Loads of work to do tomorrow when I get home from my AM doctor check up. Ugh... I'm still fat and out of shape. I hate the lecture...

Another top finished, new plants in, and an anniversary

What a beautiful day we had yesterday! A cold front came through and wiped out the humidity and dropped the temperature. We had the windows open and really enjoyed the fresh air and brisk breeze.
I continued quilting the big lime and blue quilt, and finished it Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, I also finished the applique sewing on the big chicken. It is now in my show quilt queue.

When I started this quilt, I thought it would be easy to make. Boy, was I wrong! The applique pieces are tiny and were equally difficult to fit and sew in place. Not one of my best jobs, but it is ready for quilting.

Close up of his face

The big customer pinwheel quilt is done, and ready to go home.

I can't remember the name of the panto, but it features flowers and swirly stuff. It was a real thread eater! 7 bobbins of Bottom Line with So Fine on top.

The pinwheels and sashing are lime green, but come off as yellow in the pictures. The thread is also lime green on the blue Grunge backing.
Late yesterday, I noticed more blood on Molly's side. I examined her, and it is another cyst that popped on her other side! Yikes! We corralled her and cleaned up the wound, leaving it open to the air like the first one. We go back to the vet on Thursday, and will see what he says. I hope the other cysts don't explode, too! What a mess. She's being a trooper as far as the collar goes.

Poor baby.
Mr Wazoo put in the plants he bought over the weekend, and had a fun day out in the yard. The cool weather was a perk, to be sure.

In the foreground, the red and yellow Tickseed plant, and  behind it, the new butterfly bush with white flower clusters. It is directly in front of the purple butterfly bush that always has colorful winged visitors.

The new evergreen shrub went into the back rock garden. The plants  there are low maintenance because of the steepness of the site.
Finally, it is our 37th anniversary today. Mr W has a dentist appointment and I will be in the studio sewing down the running chickens. The excitement never ends here at Wazoo.

A studio selfie. Mr W showing off his new hearing aids.

Vacation selfie at Crater Lake in Oregon. We still haven't gotten the hang of selfies, but we do know how to have fun!
