Guild meeting and more quilty stuff

Thursday night was the Pieceful Mountain Guild, and I was happy to go  visit with the fun ladies there. The meetings are always lively and a bit raucous, but I love how they are not afraid to speak their minds about points of interest. Show and tell was short because some of the group just got home from the guild retreat and hadn't finished their projects yet. The one that was finished by Karen  was beautiful. It is the four patch posy pattern. Then we had a demonstration from Diane of all the different blocks that can be made from a split pinwheel. Very interesting. I'll have to put that on my list...

Yesterday, I quilted a sweet hand embroidered baby quilt for a customer.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon at the nursery picking out the plants for the rock gardens and taking the scenic route home. Wouldn't you know it, the sky turned black shortly thereafter and we had a massive thunderstorm with heavy, driving rain. Much of the loose dirt in between the rocks is now at the bottom  and there are some rivulet trails through the garden and down the driveway.
Tim will have his work cut out for him, correcting the damage and planting all the new shrubs and flowers!

We sure stay busy here at Wazoo! I managed to sew up 364 four patches this week for a new project! Pressing is next, and then some more cutting and block construction. I'm in quilt Heaven.

Quilts are in the show...rock walls are finished!

While I as in Blue Ridge today I stopped in to see the fiber arts show that my quilts are in. They are mostly well lit (only the pineapple quilt is in the dark) and the quilting really pops. I tried to take pictures, but they don't begin to show how nice the quilts are. The colors came out all wrong (must be the lights) and each has a blob of light on it. That didn't show in person. Oh well, I know they are fun, pretty quilts, so you will just have to take my word for it!

Back at the house, the boulder men were finishing up the rock wall/garden, and getting busy in the front yard with another retaining wall/garden.
I can't believe how much work these two guys (and Tim) got done in just three days!
Around 100 tons of boulders are now imbedded in our yard!
The back is now done, except for the planting

Tim re-seeded and laid down straw

Now, for the front!
Digging out the slope to bury the rocks about half way
These rocks are so heavy, when he lays it down, we feel the vibration in the ground...BOOM!
Evening up the front of the area. The retaining wall goes here, then he fills in
behind it with rocks and dirt
The wall is taking shape
The other guy fills in with dirt around the rocks
This is so cool!!
Looks good! Tim will be busy planting for a while, I think.

Rocks, quilts and cleaning

The boulder men came at 6:30 this morning and started moving the big rocks around...BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! This booming and digger revving went on all day while they finessed the rocks into place on the hillside. Tim watched the dance all day, taking time out only to grab a quick bite for lunch. Things are starting to look like we envisioned. It is becoming an exciting project, rather than an annoying one.

Molly had to check it out when the machine stopped booming

I spent yesterday quilting a couple of charity quilts and making hundreds of four patches for a new quilt. Molly also got a much needed bath.
Another 2-3-2-6 quilt I made at sewing group

All clean!! A bit damp, but happy.

Charity quilt made by my sister.

Today was spent cleaning the house and doing the vacuuming and more laundry before settling in with handwork on bindings.
The boulder guys will return early again tomorrow, so I think we will have an early supper and an early bedtime, too! I'll be back in the studio having  a jolly time with the four patches and maybe some applique preparation!
Meanwhile, Mr Wazoo is 'tidying up' the rocks...I caught these through the screen on the back porch. He didn't know he was being watched. He's so cute.
