Fun quilt finally quilted

I was in Crafty Quilters quilt shop in Sebring, FL and saw these fabrics and HAD to have them.We were at my Wazoo retreat, so I dropped everything else and made this quilt. Months later, I finally had a bit of time to get it quilted and bound. It turned out just as pretty as I thought it would. Sometimes serendipity plays a part in creativity. Hey! Works for me!

I wish the colors would look right in pictures. This looks duller than the real thing.

Yippee!! Big, giant, humongous, project finally done!!!

I do quilting for a friend who has a remarkable business renovating quilts and making beautiful memory quilts for people. She made this quilt for a client out of wedding clothes, her husband's ties, and even her graduation gown! I think if someone handed me a pile of bridesmaid dresses, ties and a grad gown I'd run screaming from the building. Fortunately, she takes the 'sow's ears' and makes beautiful quilts out of them. The fabrics presented a huge challenge for the quilter, as they were different weights and weaves. The taffeta and metallic ones were the worst culprits for snagging and running, so I used a ballpoint needle (actually, I used 5 of these...they break and dull easily) and worked really s-l-o-w-l-y. Not my usual speed, but it worked. Anyhoo, after several starts and pick-outs, I finally finished the quilting. I think the owner will certainly be pleased!

Oh yeah, my friend also makes tee shirt quilts! Here is the front of the quilt...

and here is the back! Two sided, and very nice.

I quilted around the 5 on the front, and this is what it looks like on the back. Cool, huh?

On a roll with work and play

It has been a whirlwind month of July with family visiting, Tim getting his machine quilting going and keeping up with my own work. Frankly, I'm tired!
The next Wazoo retreat is 11 days away and I am gearing up for another fun time in Sebring with the girls. I finished my sample project and have posted it here as well as some of the work we have done this week. Also, I taught my Granddaughter how to sew and she went crazy making blocks for a little quilt for her baby half-brother. Grandpa quilted it and Grandma did the binding. Good job for a budding quilter! Now, somebody get me a beer!!

Kids, rain and work

The grandkids got in the pool early today because of the forecast for afternoon thunderstorms. Sure enough, big boomers and electricity flutters started at noon, so the activity came inside and everyone found something to amuse themselves with. My grandson discovered my Snood game on the computer and had gobs of fun there. The girls engaged in girl talk and loads of giggling. Then Auntie Anne moderated some games of Po-Ke-No until the rain passed us. 

Meanwhile, I quilted on customer quilts as well as one small one for my sister. She sewed a bit today too, and finished another quilt top! My goodness, she's fast!

The grandkids got here okay and now the house is alive with activity!! Thank Heaven we have a pool...except this is Florida, and it we have a thunderstorm every day in the summer. RATS! After a quick Walmart run for Legos and a movie, all was well. And who doesn't love pigs in blankets, mac and cheese and a big salad for dinner?...
Enjoy the quilts while I go to bed and recover for tomorrow!

Where I Sew!

On the Pink Chalk site they are having sewing space show and tell all month. It is a lot of fun to peek into other people's spaces and see how they have their sewing areas set up. The link to Pink Chalk is here on my blog if you care to take a look.

Behind the Gammill, I store thread and batting. Pantograph storage is at the end of the Gammill.

Here is the sewing space. Believe me, it is NEVER this tidy!!

Books and the nifty notion cabinet.(white drawers next to the bookcase) My hubby got the drawers free and I painted them white and added captions in the slots for what is in each drawer. I love it!

The bulk of my stash is rolled and stored this way. I like that I can pull a fabric, use some, roll it again and put it right back without everything tumbling out. These shelves are for 1/2 yard or more.

Smaller cuts of fabric are stored in bins and drawers.

This is my "sitck". I made it for a guild challenge where we were given a fat quarter and had to make something. Two ladies were eyeing it up at the final judging for a prize, and one asked,"What is it?..." The other replied, "It's a stick!" I was standing close by and heard the exchange and chuckled. It is indeed a stick! I love it!!

Aaaah! Music. I have to have it all day long.
