Knee progress and a new quilt started

My knee doctor gave me the good news today; I have 115 degrees of flexion in my knee and no longer need to go to PT as long as I walk and exercise at home. The pain should gradually diminish and by next November, I should be all healed.
Mr Wazoo mailed three quilts today and managed to quilt this one, too. Sweet birds on a branch. Very modern feeling.

I spent most of the day running back and forth to town for PT and then my doctor's appointment, so I didn't get any quilting done. I did spend a few hours prepping tee shirts for a customer quilt. I hope to get it laid out tomorrow...maybe even put it together!

Right now, it's time to go to bed. They are predicting snow over night. I hope that's wrong. We'll see.

More quilting...what else?!

We just love to quilt here at Wazoo! I finished this beautiful appliqué quilt today and I tickled myself with how well it turned out. As I was doing the quilting, I wondered what made the quilter pick this particular pattern and these fabrics. I love the combination of the toile with little birds in it with the dimples fabric as the background. I never would have put these together. Genius. The result is so stunning. I am truly blessed to get to add something to these wonderful quilts.

Mr Wazoo finished this quilt, and is working on another one. He will be doing his other job tomorrow...shipping and delivery. Two quilts will be shipped to Florida owners!

Weekend warriors make progress

Both Mr Wazoo and I worked over the weekend to get caught up on some quilting. I hate to be behind on things, and my knee surgery has caused a backlog of custom quilts to be done by little old me. Mr Wazoo has blazed past me and is doing fine on his queue of pantograph quilts. He finished a set of twin bed quilts over the weekend and is working on a third one.

Panto: Come Dance With Me

This is the third twin quilt, being done in Autumn Oaks pantograph.


My first project was this perky nautical flag quilt. I L-O-V-E the rick rack!

Custom quilted so as not to disturb the rick rack.

I did finish the patching and quilting of the hunting cabin quilt. It looks so much better...I forgot to take the 'before' picture. It had holes everywhere. It really would have been easier to just sew a new one! Oh well, someone loves this quilt enough to have it fixed. They will love it another 50 years now!

The last couple of days, I have been working on this lovely hand appliquéd quilt made by a woman in Florida. The stitch in the ditch and feather background quilting have really made the appliqué motifs pop. I just have to finish the top and side outer borders and I'll be finished.  I think it will look beautiful on her bed.

The quilting is coming along nicely.

Tomorrow is guild, and I am a February birthday girl, so I have been baking brownies and cookies for the meeting. I will also be delivering quilts to customers there. Audrey Hiers is speaking, so it should be a good meeting all around. Hopefully, I'll be home in time to finish the appliqué quilt.

A lovely day for catching up

Today was absolutely beautiful, so I let Mr Wazoo have the day off to work outside. He raked, dug up rocks, rode his tractor around, and even set off my car alarm! I guess he had a fun day out.
In the studio, Molly and I got straight to work. Molly took a nap and I quilted three small charity quilts for my demonstration of applying binding next Thursday.
I realize I have been remiss in showing you our quilting progress, so let's correct that right now. Mr Wazoo deserves a day off after doing these customer quilts this week.

There were two of these beach themed quilts, but I am only showing you one. They were the same.

This beautiful star belongs to my friend, Janet. Tim did a great job with the quilting.

My buddy Terri made this lively spinning log cabin quilt.

There were also two of this quilt pattern. The quilting on both is the same, so I'm showing you only one.

My friend Audrey made this nautical quilt. Tim quilted a wind and water pattern.

I managed to finish the big quilt with the handprints on it. The binding took quite a while to do.

I found this backing with the same design as the fabrics on the front. 

Now, here's one for the books! This quilt was hand pieced 30 years ago, and I have no idea what the quilter did to make it have 4 inches more fabric at the sides than it has in the middle. Go figure.  I really had to put my thinking cap on for this one.

I started by pulling up the excess and determining what needed to go to make the quilt square and relatively flat. That was 4 inches on both sides, tapering down to nothing three squares from the center. I folded the excess to the underside and lined up the remaining squares at their seams. Then, I pinned it all down and sewed a dart across the face of the quilt, trying to stay in the ditch doing it. The colors may not line up as they should, but the quilt it squarish, and flat. It can be used on a bed. Not too bad!

Panto: Big Splat

I also worked on a hunting quilt, all gabardine and wool, replacing blocks and mending rips. I think it looks like one of those Gees Bend quilts. I just have to do some big stitch quilting to finish the project. The binding is new, too.

And finally, My friend, Susie, made this chicken quilt for me. The minute I got home, I laid down on the couch and snoozed under its flannel goodness. It is a welcome addition to my chicken collection. And it's useful, too! Thanks Susie!

Back in Georgia

Before leaving for Florida, I finished the 12 month quilt. Yippee!

Huge quilt, custom quilted.

My brief trip to Florida was a whirlwind of activity and catching up with friends. The first part of the week was spent in Sebring at the quilting retreat. The conversation was lively and fun, and the shopping was a great bargain. I got loads of inexpensive fabrics for backings and charity quilts.
The big purchase was a new Janome 3160 from the quilt shop down the road from the hotel. I traded in my ailing 6500 Professional, which weighs a ton, for the lightweight travel model. In my excitement to get sewing with the new machine, I sewed through my finger. Oops! A little blood and a bandaid later, all was well and I got on with the sewing. I made two charity quilt tops and a big pile of patchwork posy blocks. Mine are made with Route 66 fabric instead of floral, but they will look good in a quilt for my daughter.

Connie made several bingo bags for the nursing home.

The girls had a nice party at my hostess' home one night, with pizza, wine and birthday cake!

 At guild on Friday morning, all former Order of the Fat Quarter winners were honored and given a rose. The new recipient, Audrey, got her big bouquet and golden fat quarter to a standing ovation.
