Sunday, workday.

No rest day for me. I have soooo much work to do, I couldn't have my usual fun Sunday sewing day. I worked instead. Got a lot done, too!
First, I finished the quilt on the frame from yesterday. It turned out to be a very nice heirloom for the customer.

I have a commission in the works, too. A tee shirt quilt for an auction at a Georgia Christian School. There wasn't much variety in the shirts, in fact there were duplicates of most of them, so that made my design a bit harder. I'm going to add some pieced blocks to add some pizazz to the shirts, and make up for the lack of diversity in the artwork. Here's the plan. The big colored squares represent the shirts.

I got the blocks cut out and almost finished by my 6pm quitting time. There's always tomorrow...

The quilting machine whirred along while I was doing the blocks, and I finished quilting a big piece of fabric a customer is using to make a kimono style robe from. Cool!!

I understand this panel goes on the back of the robe.

Its really hard to see the pattern. It is very oriental!

The backing (lining) is this gold and pink floral.

Walking back to the house, I couldn't help but take a couple of pictures of the Spring flowers blooming in the back yard. Everything is starting to bud or flower!

Long day in the studio

Yesterday, I hit the ground running and accomplished quite a bit. Mr Wazoo got a pass and spent the day with mulch and dirt, having gardening fun out in the yard. I spent the entire day in the studio, doing what I love. Everyone was happy!
The same quiltmaker who made the last finish here on the blog also made this beauty. I love the pattern in the different blocks of color drawing your eye around the quilt. I really like the light blue fabrics. Wonderful!

It is a big quilt, perfect for display on a bed with the center medallion.

The backing is pieced, and the thin cotton batting makes the whole quilt drapey and soft.

Monday, I have my monthly UFO group, so I had to take a side trip and get the quilting done! I finished the binding last night during a mystery movie, and it is now off the UFO list! I'm not sure what I'll do with this one, but its ready to give away.

Maybe you remember me designing and sewing this nursery rhyme quilt.

While I quilted the UFO, I sewed the binding on a charity quilt Mr Wazoo did for me last week. I'll hand that over to our Heart to Heart outreach group on Tuesday. Meanwhile, I constructed a back for this vintage customer quilt, and loaded it up. I am using the same panto on this one as the nursery rhyme quilt. The simple flowers look perfect on the 30s fabrics. I should get it done today and move on to another customer job. I also have a tee shirt quilt commission to get busy on. I have an April 20th deadline, so can't put it off.

Finally!! A finish!

I have been working on and off on the same customer quilt for a couple of weeks and am happy to say, it is finished! This is a beauty. Perfect quilt in every way...all points perfect, all seams straight and all those little pieces fit together perfectly. I wish I could be this precise. Plus, it's fabrics are wonderful and there are hundreds of different ones to enjoy. I love it.

I posted a slide show of the Pigeon Forge show, but want to explain one of the most unbelievable quilts. This quilt was Best of Show, as well as getting the award for best hand quilting. Yes folks, this quilt was hand quilted ! What kind of obsessed person would hand quilt all that stippling!! Yikes!

Mr Wazoo has been reveling in the Spring sunshine, but also getting his work done. He basted a couple of baby quilts, and quilted these before going outside to spread mulch on the gardens.

Pigeon Forge Quilt Show

Yesterday, I took a trip with a couple of friends up to Tennessee for the Pigeon Forge quilt show. The show was beautiful and very well laid out. I didn't photograph everything, but did get pictures of the quilts I liked best. For some reason, the slide show cuts off a bit of the pictures around the edges, but you'll get the idea and enjoy the quilts anyway.

All day stitch in the ditch

I spent the entire day stitching in the ditch. And I'm still not done!! Tomorrow, I'll wrap it up and get on with the quilting.

Thankfully, it is a beautiful quilt and easy to stare at for hours on end!

Mr Wazoo had some pressing yard duties since we had been away for a week. Mowing, weeding and dead-heading  took a while...then he put on his next job and got a good start before it was time to get dinner going.

Oh yes...I promised to show you what I was working on for a few days before the retreat. The old lady who swallowed the fly!! Except, I made her the sweet quilter who swallowed a fly! And a spider, bird, cat, dog, goat, cow and horse!! I think they enjoyed the song, and the crazy puppet swallowing everything whole! I know I had fun hamming it up for the 'crew'!

I had to give her a really big mouth for all that swallowing...

We're Back!!

After a week away in Texas to visit my Dad, we are back in Georgia, ready to go to work.
Before we left on our trip, I had the opportunity to go to Roswell, GA for the Bulloch Hall Quilt Guild show held at the lovely plantation from which it gets it's name. Bulloch Hall is beautifully preserved and created a wonderful backdrop for the quilts. Too bad every guild can't have such a fitting locale for their shows! My friend Kay had two quilts in the show, and won a ribbon on her 'The Bride Wore Red' quilt. In the slide show, you'll get a peek of Kay next to her Toulouse Lautrec quilt.

In Texas, I gave a trunk show of forty quilts for the ladies of the Killer Bees quilt guild. I had a fun trip, and a great visit with Dad and my sister before heading home to the studio and some quilting. I'm happy to be home in Georgia, and re-energized to do what I love.
