Mr. WAZOO! has been very busy

I think I have created a monster! A good monster, that is. My husband has started quilting for customers, and is working like a maniac. He is very methodical and precise, so I can trust him by himself to do a fine job. He still calls me for help when he has a question, but being only five steps away, it isn't so bad.
Here are a few of the quilts from his week at Wazoo!. Have a nice weekend!

NO, NO! Oh Molly...

Molly was busy hunting bunnies in the back yard while Tim and I were working, and we had quite a surprise when Tim went to get her in. In case you don't know, plumbago has very sticky flowers...very sticky; especially on little white dog fur. Oh my, what a mess! Tim spent an hour picking and brushing, picking and brushing some more. Poor little girl was all spent after the exercise. Darn bunnies!

Picture this, but all over her body...

cleaned up and in her favorite spot to recover.

During the week, Tim and I have been busy at the Gammills working to get the quilts back to their owners and out of the back bedroom. The most different thing was the two quilts made by friends in a block of the month club who made the same quilt. Both are lovely and equally beautiful.

Then there was yet another one-of-a-kind creation from Carole, over at Carole's Quilts, made from biking jerseys, menswear, ties, and even team jackets! A challenge to quilt, but a great heirloom for the family who gets it.

Can you guess where the owner is from?!

My son's quilt is on the way to Massachusetts, along with a baby quilt for one of his friends. My 'Shades of Gray' 5" blocks are off to the exchange moderator, and the dishes are done!! Wow!
Now, I'm settling in with my basket of popcorn to see what my President has to say to me tonight.

Labor Day weekend labors

We are back at work here at WAZOO since our trip to Texas to visit family, and just because it's a holiday doesn't mean a day off! I finished a custom quilt and a  baby's room wall hanging for customers before tackling a huge project of my own.
It was fun to work on this exciting quilt!

The wall hanging was a challenge with all the prairie points sticking out

My son and his wife finally got an apartment with a proper bedroom, so I made them a king sized quilt for their bed. The only request was that it be colorful. No problem there! The pattern was a tutorial from In Color Order's blog called Patchwork Chevron. I loved it when I saw it and figured I could make it as colorful as I wanted with my fabric selections. I used two layer cakes by Kate Spain for Moda called Good Morning and Terrain. The background is Kona white. I found the books and swirling books fabrics on the back at Connecting threads. My son is an editor at a book publishing company, so I thought it was a good choice. I wish I had time to custom quilt for my family, but I figure it's a utility quilt and will be washed and used, so I just chose a fun whimsical pantograph for the quilting. The binding is an old Jane Sassaman fabric from my stash. Now, I just have to do the hand sewing. Should take a while...I think this calls for a Pride and Prejudice marathon! Ooh-la-la, Colin Firth!!

Here it is with zigs vertical. It's square, so either way is okay

Done quilting for awhile...off to Texas!

We finished up the last two quilts before flying to Texas to visit family for a week. I still have one on my machine, but couldn't finish while the handyman was here. Every time he used his compressor driven tool, my lights blinked and the machine turned off. Very bad while doing custom quilting. I had no recourse than to stop and do laundry. (ugh)
My little helper anole lizard kept me company outside the window, doing push-ups and flashing his bright orange chin flap to impress me. He posed nicely for a photo before losing interest and jumping to the shrubs below the window.
I haven't seen my folks for three years, so I am really looking forward to a nice visit. They are both almost 90 and will celebrate 70 years of marriage next year! I look at Tim and quietly hope for enduring patience. We will have our 30th on Sunday. I guess it's a good thing I don't feel like it has been 30 years; that will make the next 30 easier to enjoy.
So I will be back in a week and hope to be blogging news of hurricane Isaac and what it meant to our neighborhood. The shutters are up and we have watchful neighbors minding the homefront.
Up, up and away!!

Big quilts and beautiful applique

This was the week of the giant quilt. Tim is still working on his biggest project yet, and I finished a couple more customer quilts for Carole's Quilts before Miss Carole has some long needed back surgery. She is getting her workload pared down and I am trying to keep up with her!! The first quilt is made from tee shirts and tee shirt pockets applied to great batiks and appliqued to a black background. The second (square in a square) is made from the kerchiefs the groomer puts on the dog after it's haircut is finished. The customer saved all of them and had Carole make a quilt for her bed out of the kerchiefs. She did a great job with the materials she was given; I wish I had half her creative talent.
The last quilt is one  is so beautiful in person, the pictures here don't do it justice. My customer hand appliqued and embroidered the blocks . The fabrics are luscious and intense in color. I absolutely loved working on it. I hope you loved seeing it, too

It's Friday! Time to get ready for the WAZOO retreat

We have done quite a few quilts this week and now I have to switch gears and get ready to host another WAZOO retreat. Sunday I am off to the Kenilworth Lodge in Sebring to sew and have fun with my group for three days! Hopefully, I wil get the quilt top made for my son and his wife so it can be finished before we go off to Texas at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, enjoy some lovely customer quilts done by myself and Wazoo 2 this week.
Have a happy quilty weekend!
I got to quilt this beauty. I love it, and I don't think any fabric is repeated.

I put it on my bed to show how big it is. Wow, 5" blocks...

I did this to practice my quilting from the Craftsy class.

Fun!!
