Tee Shirt top done!

Lots of fun today working on the tee shirt quilt. I finished the top and will make the back tomorrow. I like it!
No room for sashing here! There are parts of 55 different tee shirts  in the quilt. The border is a small striped fabric from my stash.

Using variegated thread and a close buttonhole stitch, I added the circles from shirts to the finished top.

customer work in progress

I have been working for a couple of days fixing a quilt that my customer's mother in law started and just couldn't figure out how to finish it. She had never made a quilt before and wanted to make one for her granddaughter's birthday. To complicate the gift even further, she decided to make a tee shirt quilt. Unfortunately, she didn't know about stabilizing the shirts and made quite a stretchy mess of it. I spent the first day taking it apart, the second and third days painstakingly unrolling the curled up edges and applying interfacing and cutting the shirts to usable pieces. Today, I was able to get the project going on the design wall. I have three vertical rows put together and two more to go. Then I am going to make the back out of the rest of the shirts. (there are LOADS of shirt-pieces to use!)
Here is what I have so far. Now I am off to bed to dream about tee shirts....

C'mon back to see what happens with the circles!

Happy Day!!

It really was a happy day here at Wazoo. I quilted a lap quilt of my own, after oiling and re-timing my machine. Everything went well, and tomorrow I will start on the few customer quilts here in Georgia.

Working on the first quilt in the new studio
I used a Walmart sheet for the backing . I like the sheets in the big box stores, not too tightly woven and often colorful.
Mr Wazoo hangs my ribbons while I finish up the quilt on my machine.
Here is my finished quilt
I used a wishbone type panto so I could finish it up quickly.
oWhile I was working on the quilt, Tim put up my ribbons. I am so happy about all the work he has done for the business. He's a rock! Now that the studio is up and running, he is toiling away in the garage, getting it cleared out and things put away.

I was especially pleased to find my doll , made in my image (oh dear!) by my friend Marcia. Aunt Sewphie is now perched on top of the bookcase, keeping watch over the activities in the studio. She is accompanied by Bucky Badger and a winter cardinal. I did hear her say she is missing Uncle Leo, who is upstairs guarding the front door. I may have to bring him down to keep the peace. We'll see.
Tomorrow is another quilting day and my first trip to the Blue Ridge quilt guild with my buddy Stephanie. What fun!

I forgot to mention my new window blinds! They are so nice, and make every room look better.

Aunt Sewphie, relaxing with her peeps.

All fabric is unpacked!! At Last!

Finally, I am unpacked. Just when I thought I had all the boxes unloaded and the stuff put away, Tim found two more! I never thought I could get sick of fondling fabric, but I reached my limit and was anxious to be done with it. While unpacking the last boxes, I felt guilty for having so much fabric and put together a box of yardage and panels for the new group I have joined. They make the kid and nursing home quilts. I love making these quilts, so I thought I would give them a boost with some new, colorful fabric to use.
Tim has been busy making the trim for the design wall and a slat for hanging my Perkiomen Nine Patch quilt. That class was a misery to take, but the quilt turned out pretty and bright, so I wanted it in the studio. It may not be my best constructed quilt, but it one of the most cheerful ones. The other quilts in the studio are small wall quilts either I have made, or were made for me by friends. Every one makes me smile. That's what I like about them!
It was such a lovely day today, we took a ride into town and went to lunch at my favorite barbecue place, and then to the Home Depot for the supplies needed to make the ironing surface for the studio. It will be wonderful to have the room done and not have projects hanging over our heads. Tomorrow, the blinds come and will be installed everywhere but the living room. They are not in yet. We have been without curtains or blinds since buying the house. No more feeling like we're in a fishbowl!
Here are the latest pictures. We are nearing the end of the job, and it is looking wonderful. I can't wait to load up a quilt and start my machine humming!

Design wall and more unpacking finds

We had another busy day here at Wazoo Georgia. While I was off doing the grocery shopping, Tim got the other two drawer units put together and ready for me to fill. While he was busy figuring out the design wall, I quickly moved the fat quarters from the bins on the fabric wall to the new drawers. Now, all that is left of fabric are bits and pieces left over from quilting projects I have finished. I haven't brought in the scrap bins yet, but will be doing that soon.

The drawers are getting fuller.

I found the box of small quilts from the old studio

I'll put them up here after I get everything in it's final place.

Without the bins, there is plenty of room for UFOs and kitted projects.
We worked as a team on the design wall, and had it up in an hour or so. It is 96 inches wide and 81 inches long. That is as far as I can reach, so why make it taller? Tim is thinking of adding a 3/4 round trim to the outside of it to make it looked more finished.

The design wall is made of insulation board covered with Warm and White batting  held in place with duct tape. Tim is trimming the second piece. Piece number one is leaning against the wall behind him.

Both pieces done and ready to install on the wall.

I did find some more of my books! Molly has decided the chair is her favorite spot to watch the progress.

The finished pieces are screwed to the wall. Tim put one inch washers between the batting on the front and the screw head. I covered the washers with bits of batt cut in circles with a hole punched in the middle for the screw. There are screws in all four corners of each piece as well as halfway down each side of both pieces for a total of 12 screwed points. I don't think it will fall off!
Tomorrow, I hope to get the sewing machines and supplies put away and the room tidied up. I would like to start sewing and quilting on Monday. Fingers crossed!

Another day...another 20 boxes emptied.

Mr Wazoo went off to Atlanta today to pick up the extra two drawer units from Ikea. Molly and I stayed home and spent the morning doing odd tasks in the house, and started unpacking again after lunch. I now have all but one box labeled 'fabric' unpacked and sorted. Some of the stuff goes into the drawers Tim brought home today, so it will have to wait until tomorrow to put it away, but the garage is looking less cluttered and I am feeling like the end is at hand!
Poor Molly had a barfy day and has been quiet and subdued. I wish her digestive disorder would go away completely, but it is chronic and will inevitably flare up periodically. We just go with the flow and try to be supportive between up-chucks. She'll be better tomorrow.
Pictures tell the story!
The bookcases are looking good...wish I could find the books.

With the extra drawers, the units hold much more!

Found the backing fabrics and the solids

Tim went right to work on the cabinets

The shelves are filling up, but not bursting like they were in Florida.

Molly looking puny.

All sorted: ethnic, juvenile, oriental, florals and leafy, homespuns, stripes, dots. shabby chic, batiks, Civil war and different colors. Whew!

Fabric Galore shop grand opening!

My friend and I had a fun day in Blairsville today. First, we checked out the Hugs and Kisses quilt group who make quilts for children and nursing home residents. Right up my alley! We met the nicest quilting ladies, all busy making new quilts to give away. You just can't beat quilters for heart, can you? Stephanie will go sew with them next month, but I will miss it due to a conflict with my trip to Florida to work the quilt show. I'll be sure to be there with fabric and machine in March, though. I'm itchin' to be stitchin'!
Next, we popped in at the new quilt shop, Fabric Galore, and the crowds were there, all smiling and happy. The new shop is big and bright with loads of space for fabric. They are getting fabric in, and I am looking forward to visiting often. The classroom is wonderful! It has a large open space with the tables for sewing. There is a Gammill in the back of the room, but Patricia (the owner) says they aren't quilting for customers. I don't care, it is a great place for the machine, and I bet she loves having it there! Best of luck with the shop...we need a quilt shop in town. I hope the quilters patronize it and help it grow. Thanks to Pat and the girls for a fun diversion today.

Mmmmm...fabric!
