Cutting, sewing, mailing...

I mailed off yesterday's quilt finish and began the customer commissioned quilt. She wants it to reflect northern Wisconsin, and incorporate the night sky somehow. Shopping both my stash and the quilt shops was a blast, and I think I have the perfect combination of fabrics. I am making the blooming 9 patch pattern to use a lot of different outdoorsy prints. Stay tuned for assembly progress.

We took in a couple more quilts, and then I decided to get some of the machine applique done on my own quilt. These blocks are all ready to sew together! I don't think I will be working on it for a while, since I have so many customer projects waiting.

Tim spent the day working in the yard and fell into bed early. Molly got me up three times last night with bouts of puking,  so I think it will be an early night for me, too! Of course she was fine all day...fingers crossed for a quiet night.

The sun came out! We're back to work.

Why is it that my sister was here for seven days and it managed to rain during all of them? And then, as soon as they leave the driveway...out comes the sun!!
                                 

                                     
Things have had a chance to dry out a bit, and Tim is glad to be back in his element; dirt. Yesterday, he dug a trench all along the side of the perennial garden so the water will not flood the plants every time it rains.

Today, he laid a drain pipe in the trench and buried it, planted grass seed, and put straw on top.
                                      

The front plantings are all in and mulched. Tim added a drain box to the pipe underneath, and all unwanted water will drain away next to the driveway.

After work, I worked on my applique blocks before making supper and settling in for the evening. It's been a good day.

                                     

The UPS truck pulled in after supper and delivered another quilt-to-be!

                                     
I'll be working tomorrow in my studio...and Tim will be working out here...

The back rock garden has plastic on it to keep it from having all the dirt wash away during the recent rain storms. It all has to come off, the dirt be replaced and the plants put in. We expect a week of fair weather, so Tim will be busy!

                                   

Hello again!!

We have has a bit of an hiatus here at Wazoo while my sister and brother-in-law have been visiting the Georgia mountains. Unfortunately...it has rained almost non-stop since they arrived. Poor Dan's golf clubs have languished in the trunk the entire time. My sister is also a quilter, so we were quite happy to spend time sewing and going to the quilt shops.
I have been working on my applique project, too, and having fun raiding my stash for just the right bits of fabric for each block.

On Thursday, we went to the sewing group where I made another charity quilt while my sister hand sewed bindings for the group. She has sewn eight bindings since she has been here!! I've been spoiled by her helping with that task.
We spent time touring by car when the rain slowed down, but only had one stop in Blue Ridge to see the quilt exhibit there. The husbands weren't too excited with that, but we girls liked it! We have watched movies, made cookies (well, Dan made cookies...we ate them), sewn a lot and eaten way more good food than was necessary to our well being. I don't get to see my sister often, so it was a fun time for me, even if it was a soggy one.
They leave tomorrow for Paducah, just when the sun is supposed to come out here. It figures!!
 I will be back in the studio tomorrow, with new quilts to work on! UPS made a delivery today with the batting I have been waiting for. Mr Wazoo will be outside trying to get the back rock garden back to square one after all the rain we have had. It really did a number on the dirt between the rocks. Much of it is now in the yard below the wall.

Sunday, fun-day

Ah, Sunday. The day of rest...NOT! I spent the morning cooking and cleaning. as well as doing some more laundry. We are expecting my sister and brother-in-law on Tuesday, so I baked a couple of loaves of banana nut bread while the laundry ran.
As soon as the weather cleared, Tim was out the door and digging in the rock garden. He spent the rest of the day out there planting shrubs and flowers. Happy man.

Molly and I went to the studio and I quilted the quilt I made last week for the homeless shelter . My guild in Blue Ridge asked for quilts for a shelter near by, so I decided the four patches I had made would be a good choice for a man's quilt. I used the free pattern from Mary Quilts blog. It is a double four patch design. I like how it turned out. I have enough four patches to make another quilt, but it will be a different design.

Later in the afternoon, I decided to start a project that has been on the back burner for a while. There are 9 blocks, but they all have fussy little pieces. I have decided to fuse and stitch instead of hand applique. I just don't have the time I need to do it justice by hand. Here is the first block, minus the feelers on the butterflies.
