Exciting new venture!

I have been reading blogs and looking at websites about the Modern Quilt Guild. It is a really wonderful movement to get back to how quilting used to be but with a modern twist. The group started in California (those innovative west coast gals!) and has spread like wildfire using the internet to get the movement started. I hope to start the Gulfcoast Florida Modern Quilt Guild here in Punta Gorda in the months to come. Stay tuned for my adventure into a new branch of quilting! Gotta love it. Happy...Sad...Busy

We were having such a happy, productive week here at WAZOO! until last Monday when we received the call everyone dreads; my husband's brother-in-law died suddenly. After canceling appointments and arranging care for the dogs, (thanks, Joan) we jumped in the car and drove to South Carolina to be with the family and pay our respects. After a quick visit to North Carolina to take Tim's mom home, we returned to Florida and went straight back to work. It's amazing how mercurial our lives are, so I have decided to do what helps others and makes me happiest...quilting!
Here is a customer quilt I did last week as well as the May WAZOO! retreat project. (It's the blue and yellow one)
I'm glad to be home and back to the machine. Be well and happy!

                               

Back at work...counting down the quilts

 Not much blogging going on because of my jammed schedule. Not just quilting, mind you, but physical therapy, Red Hats and routine home maintenance and cooking. The last two suffer for the cause...my sanity!
Here are some quilts from last week, and a picture of Cabbage Key, where Jimmy Buffet ate a burger and was inspired to write about it. It was Mmmm-mmm good!!

Dog's beauty day

I haven't put pictures of my dogs here because they usually look like ragamuffins. Last week they had a salon day, and for a brief moment they shone like the stars they are. (that's sarcasm...) Here are my muttskis in person.

We had a ball at the Venice quilt show

I went to the Venice,FL quilt show today and was surprised to have won Best Long arm Quilting! Of course it helps to have customers who make gorgeous quilts, and for that I am very thankful. Here are the quilts I did for the show.

Work and play...a balancing act

I do alot of work during the week, but sometimes I have to 'play' too. At my sewing group, Nifty Fifty, I started making the next project quilt for the May retreat. Days like that keep my creative juices flowing and make me happy instead of frustratedToday, I spent a couple of hours changing the tension assembly on my Gammill and then tweaking the stitch until it was perfect. ( I did all the practice rows on a quilt I made at the last retreat)
Now, I'm ready to put the pedal to the metal and quilt until my back screams "STOP".
What you see here are the quilts that led up to the big machine overhaul. Not perfect, but still beautiful! Join me again on the weekend for more.

Working long hours

Hey! I have been working non- stop to get the backload quilted and out to the snowbirds. The countdown is on to their departure, so I am quilting in overdrive to get their projects done.
One of the biggest projects was a tee shirt quilt where the customer didn't want sashing, and wanted all 50 shirts in the quilt!! Wow. I made the quilt, and it is HUGE.( and somewhat obscene as well) Didn't know if I should post photos, but decided that if they were far enough away and maybe upside down, it would be okay. I just want you to see what a giant king sized quilt looks like. Oh well, all bound and ready for pick up!
